How it works
A residential proxy is not a server you rent — it is a routing decision made against a pool of consumer connections that are online right now. The whole product is the matching layer between your request and a peer whose ISP, country and health make it a plausible visitor to your target.
Traffic exits through real consumer ISP connections in 195 countries and rotates on every request by default. When a flow needs continuity — a login, a cart, a paginated crawl — append a session token to the proxy username and the same address is held for up to 30 minutes. You pay for bandwidth only: threads, concurrent sessions and requests are uncapped.
Your client opens a single connection to gate.fleetproxy.com and authenticates. There is no endpoint list to rotate through and no IP to whitelist at the far end — the gateway is the only address your infrastructure ever talks to.
The gateway parses the segments in your username into a pool query: country, macro-region, city, ASN, session. It resolves that query against peers currently connected and healthy, and picks one. A query that matches nothing is a 407 with an x-fleet-reason header, never a silent fallback to another country.
Your bytes are forwarded over the peer's own connection, so the TCP handshake at the target terminates on an address registered to Comcast, Vodafone or Orange. WHOIS, ASN lookups and commercial IP-intelligence feeds all return residential, because it is.
When the response completes the peer is released and your next request draws a different one. Add a session segment and the selection is reserved instead of released, which is how continuity is bought without leasing anything.
The honest limitation: a residential peer is somebody else's home connection and can go offline mid-session. Sticky is best-effort. Read x-fleet-exit-ip back on any flow that cannot survive an address change, and design retries around it rather than assuming the address held.

Targeting is encoded in the proxy username as segments: user-country-us, user-country-gb-city-manchester, or user-country-us-asn-7922. Country codes are lowercase ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 and city names are lowercase with hyphens. If a segment names a pool that does not exist the gateway returns 407 with an x-fleet-reason header rather than silently falling back to another location.
Roughly 30 million residential addresses across 195 countries, plus dedicated static residential, mobile and datacenter inventory. Coverage is not uniform: the locations pages show live IP counts per country and city so you can check a specific market before ordering rather than after. Anything under 500 IPs in a pool is flagged, because a pool that small will repeat addresses inside a large crawl.

Every byte crossing the gateway in both directions, including request and response headers, redirects, retries and failed requests. A 403 challenge page of 60 KB counts the same as a successful page of 60 KB, which is why low success rates get expensive quickly. The dashboard breaks usage down per hour and per country so a spike is traceable to a target.
Residential IPs are addresses assigned by consumer ISPs to real subscriber connections, so targets see an ordinary visitor; they cost more and add 200–900ms of latency. Datacenter IPs come from hosting providers, are roughly twenty times cheaper per gigabyte and much faster, but are trivially identifiable and filtered by any site that cares. Mobile IPs are carrier-assigned 4G/5G addresses shared by thousands of subscribers, which makes them the hardest to block and the most expensive. Start with datacenter on undefended targets and residential everywhere else.
